Before it took on the OHSL Freedom division, the Chittenango track and field teams both went to Monday’s Tully Spring Break Invitational.
Despite cold, windy conditions, the girls Bears picked up 39 points to tie for fifth place in a 13-team field. Liverpool took team honors with 76 points.
By far, the main highlight came in the 4×100 relay, where Kaitlyn Boyer, Courtney Dyer, Caity Foster and Theresa Parascandola blazed to victory in 55.76 seconds, more than half a second ahead of runner-up Homer (57.27 seconds).
Dyer was second in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.62, behind only Liverpool’s Ore Akinpelu (1:01.67), and added a ninth in the long jump. Sarah Moon chimed in with a third-place clocking of 5:29.04 in the 1,500-meter run.
Camen Hunn got third in the triple jump with a best leap of 26 feet 2 ½ inches, as she also tied for sixth in the high jump.
Foster, Boyer, Ali Houseman and Natalie Orbeson combined to take fourth place in the 4×400 relay in 4:58.22. On her own, Boyer took sixth (1:20.25) in the 400-meter hurdles.
Chittenango, on the boys side at the Tully meet, picked up 12 points, all from Jason Given. He was second in the 200-meter dash in 24.23 seconds, trailing only Westhill/Bishop Ludden’s Christian St. Amour (22.89 second), and roared to fourth place in the 400 sprint in 54.11 seconds.
League competition commences on Wednesday, when the Bears face Fulton.
