Off its season-opening defeat to Marcellus on March 30, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls made a nice recovery in last Monday’s game against Carthage, slipping past the Comets 12-8.
Here, the Northstars did the reverse of what happened against the Mustangs, stumbling through the first half and trailing, 4-3, but turning it on after the break.
Tiffany Ryan, with four goals, and Caitlyn Hamilton, with three goals and one assist, led the charge. Miriam Ghabarou had two goals, while Kristi Thompson, Angelina Florczak and Meghan Duffy also scored. Stephanie Liberati added an assist.
Two days later, the Northstars made it back-to-back wins, pounding Rome Free Academy 14-5. Through a productive first half, C-NS steadily built an 8-2 lead, allowing it to dictate the pace all game long.
Ryan, in particular, was strong, matching the Black Knights by herself as she scored five times. Duffy added two goals and two assists, with Hamilton, Sarah Bowles, Courtney Kenny, Sarah Runfola, Megan Caveny and Kaci Aspel landing one goal apiece.
Off for a week after its first defeat of the season to CBA on March 30, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys lacrosse team returned last Friday and blanked South Jefferson 14-0.
The game broke open in the second quarter. Already ahead 2-0, the Northstars lit up the Spartans with six unanswered goals, making it 8-0, and it held South Jefferson to three total shots as it maintained the shutout.
Scott Slater and Dylan Collins each finished with three goals and two assists. Mike Fiorini added two goals and one assist, while Tyler Heldt had a goal and three assists. Tyler Griffo managed one goal and two assists as Matt Kennedy, Eric Sauer, Zach Waldron and Tom Koster scored, too.
This set up Tuesday’s game at Bragman Stadium between C-NS and rival Liverpool, which fell in between girls games against Oswego and defending Class A champion West Genesee during the April school break.
