Police are continuing to search the area where skeletal remains were found over the weekend.
DeWitt Police were called to the wooded area on Kinne Street, near Shoppingtown Mall, after a 13-year-old boy found skeletal remains while in the woods. The remains, which appear to be human, were sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office for identification.
Capt. James Hildmann said officers have secured the remains and the police department hopes to hear back from the Medical Examiner’s Office this week, once the remains are examined by an anthropologist.
Hildmann said the department is “continuing to re-search the crime scene” to possibly find any evidence of who this person may be, or how and why they died.
