Work on Jamesville’s North Street is expected to start up within the month, said Onondaga County Department of Transportation Commissioner Brian Donnelly.
A little more than three-quarters of a mile will be reconstructed starting at Route 173 in the heart of Jamesville and heading north about 250 feet past the railroad bridge at the quarry.
Contracts were just recently signed. Economy Paving, out of Cortland, will be doing the project. The roadway will be rebuilt, and the majority of the construction is expected to be completed by the end of August, Donnelly said.
The road will not be closed, but could be brought down to one lane, with a flagger directing traffic, he added.
“It’s certainly going to be challenging transversing that area; they [residents] should expect delays,” Donnelly said. “The road won’t be closed so there will not be any designated detour routes.”
Donnelly said his department is working with the contract to keep roadways open to their full capacity during popular summer events like Balloon Fest and the jazz festival.
