The village of Manlius’ planned makeover of the Swan Pond and park around it is in the midst of a makeover of its own.
Originally estimated to cost $950,000, the village board discussed how bonding for that amount would affect its debt and subsequent tax rate, and has received a recommendation from the Swan Pond Committee to “proceed with the Swan Pond Project in phases to address the immediate structural, safety, cleaning and ADA compliance issues,” reported village Deputy Mayor Janice Abdo-Rott at the board’s regular meeting Tuesday, March 13.
Abdo-Rott reported that the committee is currently prioritizing the work to be done in this first “Phase One” and is obtaining quotes.
Work that had been discussed as necessary includes the dredging of the pond, the installation of a new fence, the repair of the fountain and west wall and making the paths compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
“We are determined to not raise the tax rate,” village Mayor Mark Paul Serafin said of the decision to progress in phases.
