Taxes will stay flat in the village of Fayetteville for the fifth year in a row.
The tax rate is expected to stay the same in the budget proposed by Mayor Mark Olson last month. The total budget, however, is expected to increase about 1.4 percent.
Olson says he has achieved this overall $5.2 million budget without cutting services in the village.
“Every budget request was funded to this year’s level,” he said. Services may not have seen an increase, but their overall budgets were also not cut.
The spending plan also includes a $77,000 decrease in budget amount from the Fayetteville Fire Department. That savings will come from paying down the fire house’s debt. In 2011, the department also had to make two large interest payments. Some of the monies used to fund the fire department also come from town taxes, as part of the Fayetteville Fire District extends into the town of Manlius.
“It’s going to be tight,” said Chief Paul Hildreth.
The village will hold a public hearing on the budget at 6 p.m. Monday, April 9, and will vote to adopt the budget on April 23. The village’s fiscal year runs from June 1 to May 31.
