Gina Carnovale’s sprint title highlighted the Baldwinsville girls indoor track and field team’s effort during Friday night’s Section III Class AA championship meet at SRC Arena.
Overall, the Bees earned 50 points, putting them in fourth place, inches behind Liverpool (52 points) in the third spot. Fayetteville-Manlius (141 points) and Cicero-North Syracuse (128 points) claimed the top two spots.
Carnovale would go to the front in the 300-meter dash. Down the stretch, the B’ville senior pulled away and won with a time of 42.51 seconds as Liverpool’s Ore Akinpelu (42.92 seconds) claimed the runner-up spot. Cierra Allen, Carnovale’s teammate, was fourth in 43.01 seconds.
Stephanie Vasteno made her way to second place in the 55-meter dash, her time of 7.68 seconds only topped by Nottingham’s Ke’Arra Allen (7.53 seconds).
In the 4×400 relay, Carnovale, Allen, Quaneisha Ivey and Angelica Tomasello rose to second place in 4:07.29, not far from F-M, who won in 4:06.29. Allen and Tomasello joined Vasteno and Julia Nagy to take third (1:51.23) in the 4×200 relay.
Seventh-grader Mia Bolton and eighth-grader Kelley Hull joined veterans Emily Cushman and Kim Cushman as B’ville ran to fourth in the 4×800 relay in 10:28.37. Mackenzie Ross was seventh in the 1,000 and 600-meter runs.

B’ville’s boys team would manage 35 points in the Class AA meet, working its way to sixth place in a 12-team field where, again, F-M (97 points) rose to the top.
Andy Fleming, Nate Wicks, Dan Walker and Jeff Mahar challenged for the title in the 4×400, but settled for second place in 3:31.74, just behind F-M, who won in 3:31.10.
