Two Occupy Syracuse protesters have filed a complaint against the Syracuse Police Department in connection to the camp’s eviction from Perseverance Park last month.
According to documents published by the Syracuse Answer Coalition, Adam and Risa C’DeBaca have filed a complaint with the newly-reinstated Citizen Review Board. The couple alleges police assaulted them during the officers’ eviction of the campers. Police removed all structures from the park and charged seven individuals with creating permanent structures without a permit. The C’DeBacas were not charged.
The accusers say they parked their car in a lot on Clinton Street and were walking to the camp when an officer told them to stop.
The accusers’ statements says the officer pushed them against a nearby car and held both of their arms, despite their pleas to stop. Risa C’DeBaca claims the officer left behind bruises on her arms after he held her “so forcefully that his nails actually dug into her.”
The complaint will be processed by the Citizen Review Board, reinstated late last year by the Syracuse City Council.
The Syracuse Police Department has not yet received the complaint.
