With one more chance to tune up before the Feb. 17 Section III Class AA championships, the Baldwinsville indoor track and field teams returned to SRC Arena Tuesday night for an appearance at the annual sectional Select Meet.
The girls Bees would find particular success in the 4×400 relay. There, Angelica Tomasello, Cierra Allen, Quaneisha Ivey and Gina Carnovale would post a time of 4:13.07, just enough to hold off Jamesville-DeWitt (4:13.69) and claim first place.
Emily Soeder tied for the best clearance in the high jump, as she and Phoenix’s Marissa Turner both topped 5 feet 2 inches, but Turner had fewer misses, to Soeder settled for second place.
Carnovale earned third in the 300-meter dash in 42.96 seconds. Stephanie Vasteno earned fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.81 seconds and contributed a sixth (7.73 seconds) in the 55-meter dash.
Also, Carnovale, Allen, Tomasello and Julia Nagy were fifth (1:53.76) in the 4×200 relay as Mackenzie Ross, Kelley Hull, Emily Thompson and Chandra Hewitt had a seventh-place time of 10:30.37 in the 4×800.
Mackenzie Ross took sixth in the 1,500-meter run (5:21.22) Seventh-grader Mia Bolton finished seventh in the 600-meter run in 1:48.47. Hannah Olds was 12th in the 3,000-meter run in 11:35.80, while Kim Cushman was 13th in the 1,000-meter run.
In the boys Select Meet, B’ville was second in the 4×200 as Shay Sargeant, Jeff Mahar, Joe Stanard and Nate Wicks finished in 1:37.69. Only C-NS (1:36.57) did better.
The Bees were also third in the 4×400 as Mahar, Wicks, Sean Maar and Dan Walker finished in 3:39.77, not far from Liverpool’s winning time of 3:35.97.
Walker, on his own, took 10th (39.37) in the 300 sprint. Nate LoParco was 12th in the 3,200-meter run (10:53.98). Andrew Molinet tied for eighth in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet 6 inches
