Now the West Genesee boys swim team has 36 consecutive meet victories as it sets out to defend its Section III title next weekend at Nottingham.
Before that, though, the Wildcats had one more home meet, against the combined Syracuse team Monday night, and handled it with ease, prevailing by a score of 101-70.
Ian Bushnell and Jake Mullett both won twice. Bushnell swept through the sprints, swimming the 50 freestyle in 23.46 seconds and adding a victory in the 100 freestyle in 52.39 seconds.
Mullett fought past Collin Zapisek, 2:08.48 to 2:10.39, to earn first place in the 200 individual medley, and went on to win the 500 freestyle in 5:19.11.
Collin Zapisek did earn his own title, in the 100 butterfly (59.53 seconds), while Matt O’Donnell tore through the 200 freestyle in 1:57.64. Josh Byrne again excelled on the diving board, recording 289.35 points to beat Syracuse’s Justin D’Antonio (239.25 points) for top honors.
To start the meet, Bushnell joined Tyler Zapisek, Dan Burgin and Tyler Halsey to win the 200 medley relay in 1:50.64. Later, in the 200 freestyle relay, Josh Devendorf, Mike Mellen, Louis Ciarla and Tyler Zapisek prevailed in 1:39.83.
Ciarla finished second in the 100 free (54.32 seconds), with Mellen second in the 50 free in 24.87 seconds and also the runner-up (5:41.29) in the 500 free. Ken Brill swam to second in the 200 free in 2:08.50.
