The owner of Market Diner, near Carousel Center, has been charged with felony driving while intoxicated.
New York State Police charged Anthony M. Imbesi with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated, failure to obey a police officer, open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and multiple traffic infractions. Police say aggravated harassment charges are also pending against Imbesi.
Police say drivers called 911 after an erratic truck was spotted on the Thruway near Westmoreland. State Police attempted to stop the vehicle driven by Imbesi. A tractor-trailer driver helped police slow down traffic and block both lanes, helping stop Imbesi and protect other drivers.
Police allege Imbesi stopped at the Westmoreland toll plaza and exited his vehicle while it was still in drive. Troopers stopped the vehicle.
He was then taken to the barracks in Syracuse where police say he used racial slurs against police officers and did not cooperate. His blood alcohol content level was three times the legal limit, police say.
Imbesi was arraigned in the town of Verona and released on $10,000 bail.
