The Skaneateles Village Board of Trustees unanimously approved a request from SkanRaces to use Clift Park as the main hub of this year’s SkanRaces events during Labor Day weekend.
This will be the eighth year for SkanRaces to hold its annual – and nationally renowned – series of triathlon events in Skaneateles: the Skinnyman, Escape from the Judge, Skaneateles Road Race and Coon Hill Grind.
“We hope it is okay to repeat this process again this year,” said SkanRaces representative Michael Parker at the village board’s Jan. 26 meeting. “We have raised $238,000 in the last seven years and given it all away to the community.”
Parker said there will be no significant changes by SkanRaces for this year’s events from the way it has been run in years past. The one change will be that the bicycle race will run down W. Lake Street rather than W. Genesee Street, because construction on the latter street will be completed by then, said village officials.
Village Police Chief Lloyd Perkins said he was anxious to avoid the race going down W. Genesee Street and left onto Kane Avenue because of the potential problems it would cause if the Skaneateles Fire Department, whose station sits on that corner, received an emergency call during the race.
SkanRaces will tentatively plan for the bicycle race to go down W. Lake Street, Parker said.
Also at the board meeting:
—It was announced that all past due village water, sewer and electric bill accounts must be paid up by April 15 to avoid those balances being transferred to the property owner’s 2012-13 village tax bill and a 10 percent penalty applied. The previous annual deadline for unpaid utilities payments was May 15.
Notices will be sent to all village taxpayers as enclosures in their utility bills to remind them to keep their bill payments up to date.
—Mayor Marty Hubbard announced the resignation of Lee Buttolph, a member of the village Zoning Board of Appeals. The trustees are now seeking candidates to fill the vacancy, and ask any interested persons to contact village officials at the village offices at 685-3007 or [email protected].
