An East Syracuse man has been charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing his car and fleeing from police.
Manlius Police said they attempted to stop Michael Karoleski, 33, on Fremont Road. They say he was traveling at a high rate of speed, passed through two red lights and crossed the double-yellow line, nearly hitting a patrol car traveling in the opposite direction.
Karoleski lost control of his car at Manlius Center and Fremont Roads, traveling down a small embankment and hitting trees. Police allege he left his car and was later apprehended near the corner of Bowman Road and Wimbleton Court.
He was charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, unlawfully fleeing a police officer and second-degree obstructing governmental administration. He was additionally charged with driving while intoxicated. He was arraigned and is due back in court Feb. 7 in the town of Manlius.
Karoleski was not injured in the crash.
DeWitt Police and Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office were both on scene, as well.
