Baldwinsville’s girls basketball team is assured of a winning record, regardless of what happens the rest of the 2011-12 season.
The Bees’ 10th win took place last Tuesday night, in a non-league game against Hannibal, where plenty of offense was on display in a 74-57 victory over the Warriors.
Through an active first half, B’ville set a swift pace, steadily building a 40-23 lead. Hannibal played better in the second half, but the Bees maintained its comfortable margin.
Maggie Monnat again had a spectacular showing, finishing with 31 points from 11 field goals and nine successful free throws. There was ample support, too, as Gabi Jordan had nine points, Erika Wilcox stepped up for eight points, Liz Giromini got seven points and Angelica Romeu added six points.
Hosting Oswego Friday night, the Bees did not lean on Monnat as much, and that lead to a healthier margin as it rolled past the Buccaneers 60-37.
For a half, Oswego did keep it close, only trailing 24-21 at the break. Whatever was said at halftime worked, for the Bees stomped the Bucs in a 22-7 dash through the third quarter, breaking the game open.
Monnat worked her way to 20 points, but had more help. Romeu’s 12 points included a pair of 3-pointers, while Hope DeFazio contributed seven points off the bench. Jordan (six points), Giromini (five points) and Andrea Moore (four points) made solid contributions.
B’ville would get its look at Breanna Stewart and defending state Class AA champion Cicero-North Syracuse Tuesday before hosting Central Square two nights later.
