Design trumps art when SUArt Galleries opens “Pressing Print: Universal Limited Art Editions 2000-2010” with a public reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2. SUArt Galleries are located in the Shaffer Art Building, Sims Hall, off the quad at Syracuse University.
“Pressing Print” chronicles the past decade of artwork published by the American printmaking workshop Universal Limited Art Editions. The exhibition assembles new prints created by 20th century American masters such as Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg and Helen Frankenthaler and emerging Universal artists including Zachary Wollard, Amy Cutler and Tam Van Tran.
Basketball: Orange host Mountaineers
Syracuse University’s men’s basketball squad hosts the West Virginia Mountaineers at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, in a game to be broadcast by ESPNU.
Jim Boeheim’s boys return to the Dome at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, to tip off against their arch-rival Georgetown Hoyas.

Music: Dinosaurs at the Dino
The award-winning local rock band, The CXTec Dinosaurs, will play at 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at downtown’s Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. The hard-working Dinos feature musicians such as Mike Featherstone and Ashley Cox.
The Dirty Birds perform there at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, followed by the Grupo Pagan with Emiden Rivera at 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27.

Circle of Songs
Three Ithaca songwriters – Jennie Lowe Stearns, Mary Lorson and Bill Ring – join Syracuse folksinger Larry Hoyt for a Circle of Songs to be performed from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Eve Galleria, 6456 Collamer Road, in East Syracuse.
Stearns will sing seasonal tunes such as “In from the Cold” and “Pale Blue Parka” from her most recent disc, “Blurry Edges.” Lorson will feature her otherworldly soprano on songs such as the sarcastic “Let Them Eat Little Debbie Cakes” from her CD Burn Baby Burn.”
Bill Ring, who started his career in 1968 in Greenwich Village, will sing tunes like “The Last Thing to Go” and “Poughkeepsie” from his recent disc “Still on My Mind.”

January JazzFest on Sunday
Utica jazz chanteuse Julie Falatico will perform tunes from her CD, “Taking a Chance on Love,” accompanied by guitarist Joe Ferlo at noon on Sunday, Jan. 29, to open the January JazzFest at Mohegan Manor, 28 Oswego St. in Baldwinsville.
The Manor adopts a roadhouse persona when the Syracuse Bluesfest “SOS” Blues Band All-Stars plug in at 2 and 4 p.m.,
From noon to 9 p.m., many of the best musicians in CNY will be showcased at the mid-winter festival hosted by CNYJazz Central (which has its headquarters downtown at 441 E. Washington St.). The fest features headliners saxophonist Chris Vadala and scat singer Nancy Kelly as well as Jeff Stockham & The Jazz Police, Grupo Pagan, Tom Bronzetti and the Bill Horrace Trio.

Crystal Method at Westcott
L.A.’s Crystal Method is a dance-based electronic duo – Scott Heisler Kirkland and Ken B. Jordan – with a definite rock band feel reflecting influences ranging from hip-hop to rock, soul to pop.
