A portion of State Route 92, just west of West Lake Road in Cazenovia, was closed for about one hour on Dec. 28, after two cars were involved in a collision at approximately 3:54 p.m.
The Cazenovia Fire Department Rescue, Cazenovia Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps as well as the Manlius and Fayettville Fire Department Ambulances responded to the scene, treating five victims with non life-threatening injuries.
According to Morrisville State Troopers, Christopher Augustinos, a 17-year-old from Manlius, was travelling west on Route 92 when excessive speed on the snow-covered roadway caused him to lose control of his 2003 Kia Sorrento.
Augustinos’s vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane, as Rubanel Serrano, 46, of Syracuse approached in her 1999 Buick 4DS.
Serrano took evasive actions to avoid a head-on collision with Augustino, but lost control of her vehicle in the process, crossing into the westbound lane.
Investigators report that Frederick Hutchinson, 20, of New Berlin was traveling west when Serrano’s vehicle collided with his 2003 Ford Taurus.
Hutchinson, and three passengers in his vehicle sustained non life-threatening injuries and were transported to Syracuse area hospitals. One passenger in Serrano’s vehicle was also transported to a Syracuse medical center with non life-threatening injuries.
Following further investigation, Augustinos was issued a ticket for unsafe speed.
