Securing its command of a local rivalry, the Cicero-North Syracuse ice hockey team smothered Liverpool Wednesday night, claiming a 6-0 shutout over the Warriors at Greater Baldwinsville Ice Arena in Lysander.
The Northstars assumed a 2-0 lead through one period and put the game away by scoring three more times in the second period as goalie Alex Johnston turned away all 21 Liverpool shots he faced.
Eric Hamilton again led the attack, earning two goals and two assists. Kyler Schilling, Jesse Farabee, Connor Doren and Ben Cummings put up one goal apiece. Shawn O’Neill, Chris Schneid and Tim McManon added assists.
A night later, the Warriors broke a skid that had covered most of December as it scraped to a 2-1 overtime victory over Watertown IHC at the Watertown Fairgrounds Arena.
Neither side scored until the second period, when the Warriors got on the board. The Cavaliers tied it on Alex Lafex’s third-period tally, but in the OT Liverpool poked home the game-winner.
Conner Hurwitz and Joe Muolo earned Liverpool’s goals, while Jordan Iannolo and Kody Gaulke earned assists. Daniel Wu stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced.
Liverpool would take on Corcoran Monday in the first round of the Solvay Tournament (formerly King of the Coliseum) at Allyn Arena in Skaneateles, with another game to follow on Tuesday.
