Off to a strong start this winter, the Skaneateles girls indoor track and field team again beat most of the field during Wednesday night’s John Arcaro Memorial Invitational at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena.
Overall, the Lakers amassed 35 points, putting them in fourth place among the 22 that did get points. Only Jamesville-DeWitt (63.7 points), Cicero-North Syracuse (45 points) and Liverpool (39.7 points) fared better, and no other small-school team was close.
Kaela Fiutak actually beat the field in the pole vault, but had to settle for second place because she cleared 8 feet 6 inches with more misses than J-D’s Danielle Doss.
Madeline Adams contended in the 1,500-meter run, and finished in 5:00.93, second only to Mary Barger (Fayetteville-Manlius), who won in 4:58.93. In the 4×200 relay, Taylor Woodruff, Anna Barnett, Shelby McNeily and Mia Campanile were third in 1:56.20.
On her own, Woodruff contended in the 500-meter run, earning third place in a time of 1:25.50, while Emma Ford rose to third in the 200-meter dash in 27.49 seconds, inches behind the winner, Fowler’s Kamisha Tucker (27.40).
Ford also got sixth (4 feet 8 inches) in the high jump. Gianna Campanile just missed the points in the long jump, getting to seventh place with 13 feet 11 ½ inches.
The Skaneateles boys team had five points, most of them from Taylor Weyneth earning fourth place in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.45 seconds.
Weyneth also got seventh (10 feet 6 inches) in the pole vault. Nick Simmons, Malik Merritt, Nate Molnar and Nico Petrocci was sixth in the 4×200 relay in a time of 1:43.52. Both Skaneateles sides return to SRC Arena next Wednesday for the Oscar Jensen Holiday Relays.
