Not only did the Liverpool boys swim team earn its first win of the season, it did so at the expense of local rival Cicero-North Syracuse.
The Warriors’ 101-80 conquest of the Northstars Tuesday night at the LHS pool included two relay titles for the hosts.
Dan Hens, Drew Nann, Garrett Clarke and Nick Burdo started the meet by speeding through the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:45.42, the best in Section III this season.
Burdo returned to join Eugeen Yoon, Carl Tsang and Dan Griffin to get first place in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:40.40 and. On his own, Burdo beat Hens, 2:13.02 to 2:14.06, to grab the top spot in the 200 individual medley.
Nann had his big moment in the 100 butterfly, prevailing in 1:02.39, while Drew Henry held off CNS’s Ricky Blackburn, 2:00.56 to 2:02 flat, in a tight 200 freestyle battle.
For the Northstars, Billy Werksman stood out again. He amassed 272.55 points on his way to the diving title and also prevailed in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.40, holding off Liverpool’s Marc Alessi (1:05.09) for that honor.
Ben Mozo swept the sprints as he got first place in the 50 freestyle (24.07 seconds) and prevailed in the 100 freestyle in 54.41 seconds. Tim Hahn also won for the Northstars, in the 500 freestyle (5:46.41), while Sean Cooley took the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.15.
Liverpool’s season resumes Jan. 5, at Baldwinsville, a day after CNS meets Fayetteville-Manlius at the Nottingham High School pool.
