Dan Burke and the Baldwinsville boys swim team nearly utilized its depth to knock off Auburn in Tuesday night’s home opener, but came up just short in a 47-45 defeat to the Maroons.
Burke won a classic 100-yard backstroke duel with Auburn’s Lucas Zelehowsky, hitting the wall in 55.44 seconds to Zelehowsky’s 55.66 seconds.
Later, in the 400 freestyle relay Burke, Kyle Atkinson, Eric Johnson and Michael Watkins would prevail in a clocking of 3:54.13, right after Jack McMahon took the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.17.
Auburn made up for this by winning every other individual event, including Zelehowsky setting a B’ville pool record in the 100 freestyle with a swift time of 48.61 seconds. Luke Wilczek added titles in the 200 and 500 freestyl. The Maroons’ 200 medley relay team prevailed in 1:46.50.
B’ville returns to action Jan. 5, hosting Liverpool as it looks to improve upon a 2-2 start.
