In its only action last week, the West Genesee wrestling team hosted Skaneateles Tuesday night and won the non-league meet over the Lakers by a score of 49-30.
The difference lay in the fact that the Wildcats won every match from 132 to 160 pounds – five in all. At 132, Oldae Badwan got that string underway when he rolled to a 14-4 decision over Andrew Newton.
Connor Grome followed at 138 pounds by pinning Jon Marshall 35 seconds into the second period, while Nick Longo (145 pounds) blanked Adam Notarpole 6-0. Brandon Anderson (152 pounds) got a pin over Francis Lombardi in 3:19 and Matt Calascibotta, at 160, pinned Russ Burkhardt in 2:24.
Yet it was Dalton Elias earning the fastest pin at 182 pounds, finishing off Connor Gray in a scant 22 seconds. Jon Stefano (120 pounds) took 1:15 to pin Brad Ditch, while Chris Chigaridas (106 pounds) had a 91-second pin over Max Collier.
Matt Nichols, at 195 pounds, claimed a forfeit, and WG lost two other close matches as Tyler Heggelke (126 pounds) fell to Tyler Saunders 7-6 and Evan Stefano, at 170 pounds, did the same to Jake Brillo 4-3.
Both WG and Jordan-Elbridge took part in the Blue Devil Duals at Cato-Meridian on Dec. 10, with the Wildcats going 4-1 and the Eagles finishing with a 1-4 mark.
Head-to-head, WG beat J-E 54-30, the match mostly marked by forfeits. The Eagles got four pins, though, from Mitch Alpha (120 pounds), Doug Smith (145 pounds), Mitch Cooper (160 pounds) and Eric Gross (170 pounds), with Alpha taking just one minute to pin Jon Stefano. WG’s Brandon Anderson, at 152, pinned Mike Corgnell in 1:46.
From there, the Wildcats topped host Cato 48-25 and Geneva 49-21, but lost to Newark 55-27. J-E’s lone win came over Oswego, 30-24.
