Pompey Town Historian Ruth Hotaling gave an interesting lecture on Abraham Lincoln at the Skaneateles Historical Society Creamery on Nov. 22. Using slides, books and memorabilia as visual aids, Hotaling gave an overview of Lincoln’s life and presidency, including time he spent in New York state. More than 30 people attended the talk.
Coming up from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4, is the historical society’s annual open house event, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the society. Peggy Manring, a local artist, has graciously donated an original painting of Skaneateles Lake to be raffled off at the event. Tickets are $5 each, and all proceeds will go to the Skaneateles Historical Society.
The historical society’s annual Christmas ornament, a tradition since 1991, is now available for this year. The ornament always features a local building or other local event. This year it is an image of a Lightning sailboat that was used as the model for the cover of the first promotional brochure for the Lightning manufactured by Skaneateles Boats Inc. Ornaments can be purchased for $9.95 at the SHS gift shop in The Creamery.
