In an upset victory, Town Councilor Jim Corl beat incumbent Supervisor Judy Boyke in a heated race in Cicero.
The race between the two has been ugly, to say the least. Corl, a Republican, sent out a mailer over the weekend criticizing Boyke’s record, prompting a press conference from Boyke Monday to refute the claims. In the end, it appears voters were unhappy with the progress Boyke, a Democrat, made during her two years in office. With 28 out of 28 districts reporting, Corl won with 3,151 votes, while Boyke received 2,156.
“I’m optimistic,” Corl said before the results were available. “As we were out there today, people were receptive to our message, and I just have a feeling that we’re going to do well today.”
On the town council, newcomer Tim Burtis and incumbent Vern Conway, both Repuplicans, won the two open seats with 3,110 and 2,695 votes, respectively. Joe Ruscitto gained 2,049 votes and Don Snyder received 2,333 votes.
Running unopposed for town clerk was Tracy Cosilmon; she received 4,309 votes. Chris Woznica received 4,274 votes for highway supervisor; he too was unopposed. Both are Republicans.
Meanwhile, at the county level, longtime Third District representative Republican Bill Meyer beat out Democratic challenger Joan Kesel to keep his seat by a margin of 2,391 to 2,005 votes.
