As high as the Baldwinsville girls swim team rose this fall, it could not quite take the final step toward the top of the CNY Counties League.
In front of a loud, energetic home crowd at the Baker High school pool Tuesday night, the 6-0 Bees clashed with 7-0 West Genesee, and it was the Wildcats maintaining its league crown, prevailing by a score of 53-39.
The night’s tone was set in the opening 200 medley relay. Pushing hard, Amy Sidroakis, Charis Parker, Kaitlyn Martin and Megan Eubank hit the line in a time of 2:00.44, but WG’s quartet of Brianna Smith, Kim Pedrotti, Olivia Castro and Jessie Brusa won in 1:58.90.
Many other times, a close race broke against B’ville. Martin covered the 100 butterfly in 1:07.65, only to see the Wildcats’ Shannon Cahalan win in 1:07.10. Parker, in the 200 individual medley, finished in 2:24.01, but Pedrotti won in 2:22.68.
Parker would, late in the meet, get a winning time of 1:11.30 in the 100 breaststroke, and also join Martin, Eubank and Elena Margrey as the Bees took the 400 freestyle relay in 4:08.50.
However, the Wildcats’ advantage was too great to overcome, as Pedrotti took the 200 IM and 500 freestyle (5:40.42), while Castro claimed the 200 freestyle (2:03.11) and 100 freestyle (55.93 seconds).
B’ville now prepares itself to go to Nottingham High School for the Section III championship meet, which runs from Nov. 2 to 5. W
