Cazenovia High School graduate Chris Rogers is having a stellar season as the placekicker for the Sacred Heart University football team in Connecticut, converting all nine of his field-goal attempts for the Pioneers, a school in Fairfield, Conn.
Rogers, a redshirt freshman, has produced several big moments for the Pioneers. It started on Sept. 24, during Homecoming weekend, when Sacred Heart, 0-2 at the time, pulled out a 24-21 win over Dartmouth, from the Ivy League.
With the score tied 21-21 and a minute to play, Rogers connected on a 22-yard field goal, which proved to be the game-winner against the Big Green.
Then, after a 37-24 win over Central Connecticut State, Sacred Heart made it three on a row Oct. 10, handling another Ivy League opponent, Columbia, 34-25. Rogers, with a pair of field goals, made it six-for-six on the season and earned Northeast Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
A week later, when Sacred Heart outscored St. Francis (Pa.) 60-45, Rogers hit his seventh and eighth straight field goals, plus six extra points to give him 12 points for the day.
Even though the Pioneers lost 31-17 to Monmouth on Oct. 22, Rogers still made his ninth straight field goal. He has also made 20 of the 23 extra points he has attempted this fall.
