Strong singles play lifted the Liverpool girls tennis team in last Monday’s match against Central Square, leading to a 5-2 victory over the Red Hawks in a week whose activity was abbreviated by rain at the end.
The Warriors won all three of the singles matches, preserving the sweep when Nicolette Hamilton took three sets to beat Brianna Grimes 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Meanwhile, Kristina Monahkova beat Kelsey Thibault 6-4, 6-1 and Hannah Foster handled Savannah Blandino 7-5, 6-2.
Amid a split of the doubles matches, Caitlin Corrice and Katey Padden topped Mackenzie Berg and Shayna Wilson 7-6, 6-2.
Monica Johnson and Sally Johnson fought past Liz Barber and Ashleigh Grosso 6-7, 6-3, 7-5. The teams of Holly Glor-Melissa Inch and Sara Noll-Alexandra Reilly each lost in straight sets.
A day later, though, the Warriors lost to West Genesee by that same 5-2 margin.
Monahkova blanked Nicole Klinger 6-0, 6-0 and Hamilton handled Kelsey Abdo 6-1, 6-4, but Glor dropped a tight 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 decision to Olivia Wolfram, and the Wildcats won all the doubles matches in straight sets.
Returning to action on the same day, Cicero-North Syracuse fell to another unbeaten team, from Baldwinsville, in a 6-1 decision.
Kristin Inthirakot and Bethany Wicks prevented the shutout for the Northstars, taking three sets to beat Shannon Hurley and Taylor Slink 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
Hannah Simmons led early in third singles, but fell to Taylor Ferrari 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. Richelle Brousseau and Jessica Francatti lost to Natalie Kot and Katherine Schumacher 6-1, 7-5.
