All sorts of high-level competition could be found in the Skaneateles girls swim team’s 100-86 defeat to Christian Brothers Academy Wednesday night at the Community Center.
Rachael DeWitt provided a historic moment for the Lakers in the 100-yard backstroke, setting a new school record with a time of 1:07.07.
This came after DeWitt had won the 200 freestyle in 2:08.06, and she would team with Rachel Teixeria, Leah King and Nikki Cole to claim first place in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:09.95.
In that same 100 backstroke where DeWitt broke the school mark, CBA star Summer Schmitt won in 1:01.70 to set a new Community Center pool record, just after she had done the same in the 200 individual medley on her way to victory in 2:14.90.
Kaela Fiutak was first in the diving event, earning 194.00 points, while Cole went on her own to take the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.80. CBA’s Maggie Fletcher won both the 50 freestyle (25.86 seconds) and 100 freestyle (55.65 seconds) and helped the Brothers’ 200 medley relay team prevail in 1:56.03.
The Lakers would bounce back on Friday at the Community Center, toppling Holland Patent by a score of 103-80.
Cole, Teixeria and King each won twice. In fact, Cole succeeded in back-to-back races, following up her 50 freestyle title (26.82 seconds) by swimming the 100 butterfly in a school-record time of 1:07.52 to prevail there, too.
As for Teixeria, she needed 2:30.25 to prevail in the 200 IM and, later in the meet, claimed the 100 backstroke in 1:10.67. King was first in the 200 freestyle (2:23.65) and swam the 500 freestyle in 6:17.19.
DeWitt stepped in to take the 100 freestyle in 59.17 seconds, while Fiutak earned 164 points for another diving victory. Cole, DeWitt, Teixeria and Haley Bucholz got together and, in the 200 medley relay, prevailed in 2:05.25.
Skaneateles faces another big test on Tuesday, when it hosted Jamesville-DeWitt.
