A student was removed from Liverpool High School Thursday morning by Onondaga County Sheriff’s deputies after posting a “very alarming” message on Facebook Wednesday night.
Dr. Richard Johns, superintendent of the Liverpool Central School District, said the message was brought to the district’s attention by another student.
“Another student reported it to a security person,” Johns said. “It was a comment that was made that was very alarming, but it didn’t mention specific people.”
Johns said the school called the sheriff’s department, which sent deputies to LHS. The student was removed from the premises and taken to the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse. No weapons were found at the school.
Johns declined to comment on the exact nature of the message.
Johns said the school has gotten involved in social media disputes between students in the past, but only if it overflows onto school grounds.
“If two kids are going at each other on Facebook and it doesn’t spill over into the school, we just let the parents take care of it,” he said. “When we start getting involved is when there’s a fight on school grounds over something that’s said or something erupts back and forth. But this was not of that nature. This was more of a threat to the school.”
