Somehow, Laura Leff managed to top herself with the margin she created during the West Genesee cross country team’s sweep at Central Square Wednesday afternoon.
Just four days after recording a second-place finish at the massive Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Invitational on Sept. 17, Leff tore through the Central Square course in 18 minutes, 32 seconds, nearly four minutes ahead of the field.
It proved much closer in the race for the runner-up spot, where WG’s Kelly Powell, in 22:01, edged the Red Hawks’ Megan Holzwarth by one second. But the Wildcats pulled away by taking the next five spots in order.
Abby Kastick was fourth, in 22:26, three seconds ahead of Lindsey Weaver, while Amy Hannahan was sixth in 22:55. Mary McGlynn was seventh in 23 minutes flat as Elise Dunshee (23:36) was eighth.
WG’s boys cross country team beat Central Square by a more comfortable 19-39 margin, helped by a 1-2 finish at the top. Martin Leff won the individual title in 18:02, seven seconds ahead of teammate Nate Conroy.
Mark Reilly worked his way to fourth place in 18:27, with Jack Erhard (18:29) close behind in fifth place. Luke Potash was seventh, in 18:44, while Ethan Osborne was eighth in 18:44.
