Through its early-season work, the Liverpool boys golf team is a clear contender for top honors in the CNY Counties League, though a late-week defeat hurt those chances as Cicero-North Syracuse’s Blue side went 2-0.
The Warriors backed up this theory with last Wednesday’s 201-205 victory over Oswego at Liverpool Country Club.
Karl Deuble, with a 38 for nine holes, tied the Buccaneers’ Brandon Tracz for individual honors. David Pisciarino posted a 40, while Steve Baldini, Jackson Hobble and Ryan Contegni each shot 41 to make up for Oswego’s early lead.
But the Warriors took a hit on Friday, falling to Baldwinsville 215-228 at Radisson Greens. Sean Martens, shot a 42, one shot behind the Bees’ Matt Monaco, while Andrew VanMarter could only manage a 45. Deuble had a 46, just ahead of Josh Anthony (47) and Contegni, who had a 48.
Meanwhile, CNS Blue would beat Syracuse City 195-209 to get back to the .500 mark. Mike Cavallo and Joey Petrin both shot 38 at Northern Pines, while Derek Teague and Mike Mento had matching totals of 39. Corey Riper added a 41.
Then Blue followed it up with Friday’s 199-203 win over Auburn, also at Northern Pines. Teague improved by one shot, to a 38, with Kevin Stone gaining a 39 and Frank Volino posting a 40. Cavallo and Mento had matching totals of 41.
As for CNS Green, it returned to action Thursday and lost to Baldwinsville 201-212. Eric Hamilton shot a 42, one ahead of Brad Hamilton, while Austin Parzych and Rob Tarson had matching totals of 44. Brendan Polsin paced the Bees with a blistering 35 in the chilly conditions.
A day later, Green took a 230-235 defeat to Oswego. The difference was that the Buccaneers’ Tyler Grimshaw shot a 38, six shots better than Luke Cavallo, the Northstars’ top performer. John Petrin had a 46, with Tarson posting a 47 and Mike Dober getting a 48.
