Looking for back-to-back wins, the Skaneateles girls tennis team met Bishop Grimes on Friday and blanked the Cobras in a 7-0 decision.
Katelyn Ellison had the toughest singles match, but beat Mackenzie Thomson 6-4, 6-2. Makenzi Herbst routed Erannan Shattuck 6-0, 6-1, while Alaina Davis took out Clare Williams 6-1, 6-0.
One doubles match was forfeited, but Kathrina Kulik and Kathryn Magee gained its own 6-1, 6-0 win over Mallory Martin and Hannah Paparella. Olivia Gage and Angela Krause topped Nicole Donati and Melanie Burke 6-0, 6-2, with Elizabeth Belinski and Emily Call getting a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Caitlyn Buckman and Danielle Erwin.
A day later, Skaneateles went to the Girls Tennis Invitational at Fayetteville-Manlius. With 25 points, the Lakers were just behind Chittenango (27 points) for the runner-up spot, but ahead of Westhill (15 points) as the Hornets won with 45 points.
Herbst reached the first singles final, only to fall to Chittenango’s Ami Petosa 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. To gain third place in second singles, Ellison edged the Bears’ Marie Perriello 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, while Davis won a rematch with Langdon 7-5, 6-4 for third place in third singles.
In the first doubles final, Kulik and Magee played well early against F-M’s Rhiannon Iorio and Carly Romano in a 6-4, 6-1 defeat. Gage and Krause reached the same position in third doubles before falling to the Hornets’ Alexandra Millimacci and Laurin Goldberg 6-1, 6-2. Call and Belinski got third place in second doubles in a 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 thriller over Carello and Sherlock.
