So far, all is going quite smoothly for the Baldwinsville boys volleyball team in its first round against local Class AA opponents.
The Bees moved to 2-0 Monday with a 25-10, 25-11, 25-5 sweep of the combine Syracuse squad. Ryan Shelton had 10 assists and three aces. Chris Drain added seven assists, while Ryan Zbikowski, with four kills, led a balanced front line. Shawn Calnan, Anthony DiMarco and Zach Cochran each finished with three kills.
B’ville then went to Liverpool Wednesday night and roared past the Warriors 25-12, 25-16, 25-20. Up front, Zbikowski had 11 kills, helped up front by Kevin Drain (six kills) and Calnan (four kills), with Shelton earning 15 assists and Chris Drain picking up nine assists.
For the girls Bees, work began Tuesday as it swept Nottingham 25-5, 25-6, 25-4. Allegra Bell had seven kills and four aces, with Megan Andre adding five kills. Maureen Thayer fed both of them with 14 assists as Madison Whitney picked up seven aces. Sydnie Hamm had four aces and three kills.
It was just as lopsided in Thursday’s 25-7, 25-4, 25-5 destruction of Fayetteville-Manlius. Liz Giromini set the stone with six aces, while Thayer (nine assists) and Shannon Albright (15 assists) split back-line duties. Paulina Rein had eight kills, with Bell getting five kills. Sarah Klaben (nine digs), Amanda Chajkowski and Danielle Sayler (six digs each) excelled on the defensive side.
B’ville should get tested a bit more this Tuesday at West Genesee before hosting Utica Proctor. And the boys Bees, who play Saturday at a tournament in Victor, host North Rose-Wolcott and Oswego next week.
