East Syracuse Minoa Schools is considering moving its spring break up one week following the state’s rescheduling of its English Language Arts exams to April 16-20.
“At the present time, we have been given no choice but to comply with this directive, and as a result, we are now considering moving spring recess to the week of April 9-13, 2012,” wrote Superintendent Donna DeSiato in a letter to district parents. “Commissioner John King has apologized for the change, which affects about 10 percent of the districts in the state (primarily in Central New York); however, we are very disappointed by the insensitivity this change demonstrates toward families who have already made plans for the April 16-20, 2012 spring recess.
DeSiato said the she is in the process of reviewing ESM’s options with the school board neighboring school districts’ superintendents.
“We will communicate a final decision on this matter by mid-September, pending Board approval,” DeSiato wrote.
The state’s rescheduling of the ELAs affects all schools within the Onondaga-Cortland-Madison BOCES zone. The F-M school board will hold a special meeting to discuss the district’s options at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
