Readers of the Skaneateles Press will see some major changes this week in the newspaper and on skaneatelespress.com.
The most striking change is at the top of page 1, where we’ve changed the flag of the newspaper to a more striking blue typeface. We’ve also updated page 2 to better highlight the contact information for our editor, Jason Emerson, and advertising sales representative, Sharon Waskiewicz.
These changes were made for several reasons: to give our front page a bolder look, to correct the design flaw of our former, off-center flag, and to return the bold blue color of the Press from years ago to the top of the front page.
Visitors to skaneatelespress.com also will see a completely different look. For the past several weeks, our editorial department has been hard at work designing a new site that incorporates more content, more photographs, more video and several ways for readers to interact with each other and with members of our staff. Readers can sign up for alerts so that content they care about most will be emailed to them, and the site can be easily integrated with people’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
I encourage our readers to go there, sign up for an account, spend some time on the site and provide us with some feedback on things you’d like to see.
In the next few weeks, we will also offer a new classified advertising portal which will allow readers to post classifieds and browse classified ads from across New York and Vermont. We’re even offering free classifieds — both in print and online — for any items you would like to sell for under $99 (private parties only, please). Readers will be able to access this classified ad site through skaneatelespress.com or through theclassifiedsuperstore.com. We think it will provide a valuable service, as it will encourage transactions both at the very local level as well as regionally.
We hope you enjoy the changes we’ve made, but we also want to make it clear that the Skaneateles Press is your newspaper and you — our readers — have a voice. We want your feedback, both positive and critical, to ensure that we make decisions in the best interest of our readership.
