A change in the Mohawk Valley Indoor Track Association format for its fourth meet of the season last Tuesday night did little to curb the Cazenovia Lakers’ win streak on the girls side.
In fact, with double the points available, the Lakers crushed most of the Division II (small school) field with 201 points. Only Clinton, with 155 points, came close to Cazenovia in the final standings.
Paige Biviano needed 9.63 seconds to win the 55-meter hurdles. Moving to the long jump, Biviano beat the field by going 15 feet 3 inches, with Audrey Bowers (14 feet 5 1/2 inches) in fourth place. Biviano also took fourth in the triple
jump, going 32 feet 1/2 inch as Megan Stanford was sixth.
Jillian Vogl, Piper Gianforte, Audrey Bowers and Ashley Winn combined to win the 4×200 relay in 1:53.56, the only sub-two minute clocking. Rachel Grimm, Caroline Marshall, Hollie Marcelle and Jeannette Cudney won the 4×800 relay in 11:13.46, with Vogl, Marcelle, Winn and EmmaJean Spear victorious in the 4×400 relay in 4:20.23.
On her own, Vogl would win the 300-meter dash in 43.86 seconds, as Marcelle pulled away in the 1,500-meter run to prevail in 5:21.71 with Emma Wolsey in fourth place. Winn needed 7.65 seconds to earn first place in the 55-meter dash.
Marshall won the 3,000-meter run in 11:51.36 as she and Margaret Wolsey (12:07.38) swept the top two spots and Tori Wright finished fourth.
Margaret Wolsey (1:54.98) and Spear (1:55.38) took second and third, respectively, in the 600-meter run, with Cudney second in the 1,000-meter run (3:27.22) and Alex Dolbear (3:38.26) in third.
Many points came from the shot put, where Grace Eberle, with a toss of 28 feet 7 inches, edged out Molly Woodworth (28 feet 5 inches) and Christie Tainter (26 feet 11 inches) in a 1-2-3 sweep. Eberle added a fourth in the weight throw.
Gianforte cleared 8 feet 3 inches to win the pole vault, with Michelle McGinnis fourth and Emily Clipston fifth. Laura Fitch was third in the high jump, clearing 4 feet 5 inches.
As this went on, Cazenovia’s boys indoor track team contended for the Division II top spot, too, claiming 103 points, not far from West Canada Valley (118 points) and Clinton (112 points) at the end.
Again, the Lakers pulled off arelay sweep. Conner Polsin, Noah Shephard, Forest Blanchard and John Stoker won the 4×400 in 3:53.52, more than two seconds ahead of runner-up Clinton. In the 4×800, Pat Dermody joined Shephard, Nick Genzel and Tyler Dunkle for another victory in 9:47.60. Jose Wells, Tom Mackowiak, Dylan Muller and Matt Donovan took the 4×200 in 1:42.60.
Dermody also prevailed in the 3,200-meter run in a clocking of 9:56.75, the only sub-10 minute effort. Mackowiak sprinted to second in the 55 sprint (7.07 seconds), with Wells (7.17 seconds) in third. Shephard was fourth in the 600 (1:36.06), with Polsin fifth in the 300 and Jack Woltman fifth in the mile.
In field events, Muller rose to second in the pole vault by clearing 10 feet 6 inches. Chris Barnhart went 37 feet 6 1/2 inches for third place in the triple jump, with Polsin fifth. Mackowiak cleared 5 feet 5 inches for third place in the high jump.
Greyson Barr was fourth in the shot put (34 feet 8 inches), with Kyle Katterin fifth as Pat Nunez got fourth (37 feet 5 inches) in the weight throw. Wells took fifth in the long jump.
Up in Division I (large schools), Chittenango took fourth place with 67.5 points. Josiah Durfee won the 1,000-meter run in 2:47.27 and got second place in the mile in 10:02.42 as John Durfee finished fourth.
Jason Given rose up to win the 600-meter run in 1:32.40, as the Bears were second in the 4×400 relay (4:02.71) and third in the 4×200. Kris Ingerson was second in the 55-meter dash in 9.40 seconds.
Oneida had 46 points, most of it from field events. Jimmy Moyer won the high jump, clearing 5 feet 8 inches, and was second (42 feet 5 1/4 inches) in the triple jump as Dan Margo took second (45 feet 10 inches) in the shot put.
In the girls MVITA Division I meet, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill rose to third place, with 72 points, as Oneida got fourth place with 52 points and Chittenango earned 20 points.
VVS had Jenna Fiacco throw the shot put 29 feet 7 inches and win that event. Sam Netzband, fourth in that event, won the weight throw with a toss of 24 feet 1 inch. Kayla Fazekas took third in the high jump (4 feet 2 inches), with Kayla Prentice third in the triple jump and McKenna Novak fifth in the long jump.
On the oval, the Red Devils were second in the 4×200 (2:01.62) and 4×400 (4:38.30), plus third in the 4×800. Novak took fourth in the 55 hurdles.
The Indians had Kim DeCarr win the 600 in 1:51.82, where VVS’s Kerry MIley was fourth, and add a third in the 3,000, where the Bears’ Shannon Bunce and Jordan Donnelly were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Sara Rifendifer was second in the 300 in 46.71 seconds, with Rachel Coons in fourth as she added a fifth in the 55 sprint. Vivian Thurston cleared 6 feet 9 inches for second place in the pole vault. Oneida got fourth in the 4×200.
