Finishing another undefeated regular season, the Christian Brothers Academy girls swim team defeated Cortland 84-68 Wednesday night at the LeMoyne College pool. Summer Schmitt would win twice, earning a victory in the 200 individual medley (2:14.47) before breaking the one-minute mark in claiming the 100 butterfly in 59.33 seconds. Kelly Bewley had her own unique double. She won on the diving board with 196.20 points, then turned around and, in the 100 freestyle, claimed first place in 1:03.61. Ruthie Speidel, second to Maggie Fletcher (1:57.16) in the 200 freestyle, dominated the 500 freestyle, winning it 5:16.96. Kathryn Coughlin won the 50 freestyle (27.06 seconds) as CBA’s quartet of Zoe McCauley, Caroline Cupelo, Destiny Cerlanek and Bridget Bellardini beat the field in the 200 medley relay in 2:09.95. On the same night, double victories by Katie Pechacek and Melissa James helped propel Fayetteville-Manlius when it went to Auburn and earned an 88-80 victory over the Maroons in the regular-season finale. In the 200 freestyle, Pechacek took first place in a time of 2:08.75. Later in the meet, she worked her way through the 500 freestyle in 5:42.38 to prevail again. James swam the 200 individual medley in a strong time of 2:25.40, this before taking another title in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.70. Hadley Cameron-Carter also earned her share of glory for F-M. Cameron-Carter won the 100 backstroke (1:05.85) and teamed with James, Delaney Pfohl and Stephanie Wilcoxen to claim the 200 medley relay in 2:00.50. In the 200 freestyle relay, Pechacek joined Cameron-Carter, James and Wilcoxen as F-M won in a quick 1:47.53. Jamesville-DeWitt would beat Fulton 93-57 to finish its regular season at 7-1. Kalie Coyne swam the 100 butterfly in 1:01.82, with Amanda Behan taking the 50 freestyle in 28.15 seconds and Danielle Doss earning 186.80 points on the diving board. Wins also went to Emily Fitzgerald (200 freestyle), Madeline Seely (200 IM), Katie Comanici (500 freestyle), Molly Lenehan (100 backstroke) and Emily Aziz (100 breaststroke). J-D also swept all three relay events as Coyne, Comanici, Ali Rosser, Ashley Buck, Morgan Pusey, Emily Luckette, Tania Nsouli, Sarah Wildridge and Lauren Crosby took part. As this went on, Manlius-Pebble Hill lost to Skaneateles 102-84 at Henninger High School. This came despite Carly Bright winning the 200 freestyle (2:14.29) and 500 freestyle, while Phoebe Patrician claimed the 50 freestyle (27.78 seconds) and tied Amanda Shoenfelt in the 100 freestyle (1:01.20). Nika Jonas (100 butterfly, 1:10.38) and Miriam Haxton (100 breaststroke, 1:13.23) also prevailed, with the quartet of Haxton, Patrician, Bright and Jonas swimming the 200 medley relay in 2:06.82. CBA and F-M will have several favorites in events when the Section III championships are held this week at Nottingham High School – where the Hornets have home meets throughout the fall.
