With a new dose of confidence after knocking off rival Cazenovia on Sept. 24, the Skaneateles girls volleyball team returned to a steady dose of Class AA opposition — and kept on winning, four times in a span of six days.
This included Wednesday night’s match against Cicero-North Syracuse, where the the Lakers took out the visiting Northstars in three straight games, each of them in equal 25-19 scores.
Colleen Cargile finished with 24 assists, adding six digs and three kills. Anna Goodell had 10 kills and 10 digs, with Gabby Eckles earning six kills, five blocks and four assists. Julianna Augustine and Joanna Dean each earned five kills as Erin Callahan picked up eight digs. Caroline Walton matched Goodell’s output of 10 digs.
Just as impressive was what the Lakers did on Friday night against West Genesee, as it again needed just three games to prevail.
Here, the opener wasn’t difficult — a 25-14 romp, to be precise. But the next two games went to the limit, as Skaneateles again came up with the tough points at the end to win those games by scores of 25-23 and 26-24, preventing any extension on WG’s part.
In addition to her 17 assists and five kills, Cargile had 16 digs, while Eckles fit in 15 digs to go with her six kills. Walton had six kills and 12 digs, with Goodell picking up 18 digs and Joanna Dean contributing four kills.
Skaneateles dismissed Nottingham last Monday night in a 25-7, 25-13, 25-7 sweep. Cargile picked up 16 assists, often feeding it to Walton, who had eight kills. Goodell and Alyssa Stevens each had three kills as Eckles served up six aces, plus four assists.
And at the close of this busy week, the Lakers met another city opponent, Henninger, and took out the Black Knights 25-9, 25-19, 25-17. Cargile finished with nine assists, while Eckles fit in seven aces, six assists and three kills. Dean had four kills.
Having moved to 11-1 on the season, Skaneateles rests most of this week, its only match a Tuesday-night visit from Bishop Ludden.
