Both the Fayetteville-Manlius and Christian Brothers Academy girls tennis teams emerged with titles from their respective divisions at Saturday’s Central New York Invitational.
The Hornets, on its home court, earned 61 points to beat out Chittenango, who took second place with 47 points. Meanwhile, the Brothers got 45 points in its division as Auburn, with 33 points, claimed the runner-up spot.
F-M won its third singles division when Olivia Calancie beat Sierra Sleight (Chittenango) 6-2, 6-1, while Sienna Susko and Meghan Muraco each had second-place finishes in their singles divisions. Emily Barclay (Manlius-Pebble Hill) advanced to the second singles final, but fell to Westhill’s Katie Ferrara 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Of the four doubles divisions, the Hornets won three of them. In first doubles, Carly Romano and Allison Vizgaitis topped Chittenango’s top duo of Tanya Cziesler and Brandyn McDermott for the victory.
Rhiannon Iorio and Katie Muller needed three sets to beat Camen Hunn and Kaleigh Koegel 1-6, 6-4, 10-8, while Allison Mitchell and Laura Thomson beat the Westhill tandem of Phoebe Langdon and Bridget Sherlock in fourth doubles. Kara Goldberg and Caitlin Welker lost to the Bears’ McKenzie Doig and Haley Landers in third doubles.
CBA’s title included Colleen Cavanaugh winning in second singles and Shilpa Kamani taking the third singles title behind first singles runner-up Nicole Kalhorn. In doubles, Shannon Fitch and Lauren Mastroeni swept Brianna McAdams and Casey Rulison 6-2, 6-3, while Olivia Rotondo and Chrissy Thomson-Basha finished second.
