So it was the Cicero-North Syracuse’s turn to take a shot at the Fayetteville-Manlius girls tennis dynasty and its 16-year-old win streak on Friday afternoon.
And though it tried hard, the Northstars could not break through in a 7-0 defeat as the Hornets’ streak reached 255 consecutive matches.
In the closest of the three singles matches, Jessica Geary fell to Sienna Susko 6-2, 6-1. Neither Brianna Almeida nor Brittany Wilson could claim a game.
The CNS doubles team of Katie O’Leary and Lauren Osada worked a bit longer, yet still fell to Allison Vizgaitis and Caitlin Welker 6-2, 6-4. Alaina Henson and Kelsey Wilson had a 6-1, 6-3 defeat to Katie Muller and Meghan Muraco.
Cari McKenzie and Kavita Surgadevara lost a 6-3, 6-0 decision to Olivia Calancie and Laura Thomson, with Bri Davis and Caitlin Tucker falling to Adair Douglas and Jessica Guarino 6-1, 6-1.
As this went on, Liverpool continued its hot start, sweeping its way past the Central Square Red Hawks 7-0.
Lindsey Wallace, with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Chelsea Mahaffy, led the singles charge as Sarah O’Hara handled Kelsey Thibault 6-1, 6-1 and Kristina Monakhova beat Madison Perkins in a pair of 6-2 sets.
Much the same thing happened in doubles, where Madeline Cass and Kerry McSweeney swept away Emily Nielsen and Kristen Stewart 6-0, 6-0. Marla Chayban and Melissa Inch had a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jessica Root and Mackenzie Ruffels.
Though it was a bit closer, Megan Falzone and Samantha Thayer still beat Alison Foland and Jordan House 6-3, 6-2, while Laura Gardner and Nicolette Hamilton picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Sara Firnstein and Olivia Mascaro.
