A meeting scheduled for Wednesday June 16 to release the results of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Health and Human Risk Assessment study on the proposed sediment containment area at Wastebed 13 in Camillus has been postponed.
According to former Camillus Councilor Kathy MacRae, who sits on the NYSDEC Community Partnership Working Group for the Onondaga Lake cleanup project, the EPA was not ready to release the HHRA last week as planned.
MacRae anticipated the study would be available the following week and that the meeting to share the HHRA findings with the public would probably be rescheduled for early July. The date and time for the rescheduled meeting were not available at press time. For more information, visit cnylink.com.
Camillus to talk truck traffic
On the agenda for the June 22 Camillus Town Board meeting is a public hearing to address a proposed local law that would exclude trucks and other commercial vehicles from Bennetts Corners Road between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
The proposal will be made after residents in the Bennetts Corners Road area endured at least one week of nearly 24-hour truck traffic from Hanson quarry on Route 321 in Skaneateles to the Thruway construction site in Memphis. When work hours were extended by Cold Springs Construction to meet the reconstruction project deadline, hauling continued throughout the night to 2 a.m. some nights and began as early as 5 a.m. some mornings the week of May 24 to 28.
The law would keep trucks, commercial vehicles, tractors and tractor-trailer combinations off of Bennetts Corners Road to the northern boundary of the town of Camillus during designated hours, but would not hinder delivery or pickup vehicles.
