Four wins in eight days would be required if the Jamesville-DeWitt boys lacrosse team wanted to complete an undefeated run to the state Class B championship.
That would include two parts of the regional round, the first half of which came Saturday at Cicero-North Syracuse’s Bragman Stadium against St. Lawrence, from Section X.
Despite a delay – and a very slow start – the Red Rams found its groove before halftime and breezed to a 15-6 victory.
Rain and rumbles of thunder forced nearly a half-hour delay to the start of the game. And once it faced off, the Rams took its time learning St. Lawrence, only getting a pair of goals.
But that 2-0 lead grew in a hurry in the second quarter. With Tim Edwards dominating the face-offs, J-D kept getting possession – and kept converting, eight times in all on its way to a 10-1 halftime edge.
Meanwhile, Mac Feiner, Dima Bakrukov, Matt Firman and the Rams’ defense kept St. Lawrence off the board most of the time. Half of the goals were allowed in the fourth quarter, long after the starters had departed.
Eric DeJohn led with five goals, while Cam Stone produced five assists. Jordan Evans, Rob Elbers and Deke Burns each scored twice, with Joe Shepard, Alex Hatem, Steve Aziz and Drew Wanamaker earning single tallies. Burns and Elbers added assists.
This sends J-D into the Class B regional final against Section IV champion Corning West Tuesday at 5:30 at Union-Endicott High School near Binghamton. This is Corning West’s last season of lacrosse, as that school merges with Corning East (who won the Class C title and will play Skaneateles in the regional finals) next year.
