Of the four local girls track and field teams competing in Marcellus at last Monday’s OHSL Liberty division championship meet, the host Mustangs had the best finish.
Marcellus claimed 79 points, taking third place behind Cazenovia (135) and Skaneateles (93). Jordan-Elbridge had 58 points for fifth place, with Westhill getting 49 points and Solvay 12 points.
The Mustangs won the 4×800 relay as Maggie Dunn, Rachel Garn, Lizzy Dean and Laura Quercia finished in 9:52.18, more than eight seconds ahead of the field.
On her own, Dean cruised to victory in the 3,000-meter run in 10:02.23, more than 20 seconds ahead of the field, as Dunn finished third in 11:42.89.
Garn won the 1,500-meter run in 5:08.17, with Dean just behind her in second place (5:08.53) as she also finished third in the 800-meter run (2:25.39). Quercia claimed second in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.91 and fifth in the 800.
Carly Koll cleared 8 feet for third place in the pole vault. Chelsea Tarolli was fourth in the 200-meter dash and fifth in the 100-meter dash and helped the Mustangs earn fifth in the 4×100, too. Megan Tock added a fifth in the discus.
J-E’s Courtney Hourigan won the pentathlon, earning 1,844 points. Rachel Betts took fourth in the 100 (13.53 seconds) and sixth in the 200, while Rachel Scott had a fourth in the 400.
Lisa Kimak got fifth in the 100-meter hurdles and Allison Donahue was fifth in the 2,000 steeplechase. Phebe Alley ran to fifth in both the 1,500 and 3,000 as The Eagles also took fourth in the 4×100 and fifth in the 4×800.
Molly Hourigan and Kimak were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the high jump, as Mackenzie Sawyer (fourth) and Emma Cooney (sixth) earned points in the triple jump.
Westhill saw Katie Powers beat the field in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 7:57.30 as teammate Susan Lopez (8:39.96) finished third. Lopez also was fourth in the 3,000. In the high jump, Kathryn Christensen cleared 5 feet, but had more misses than Skaneateles’ Gabby Eckles and finished second.
Catherine Coon, Lissa DiPaola, Katie Lenkiewicz and Kristen Schoenborn were third in the 4×800 (10:25.85), as Coon got fourth in the 1,500 and Christensen was sixth in the 800. The Warriors were also fourth in the 4×400 (4:23.37). Teammates Megan Dermody and Caroline Coates were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the pentathlon.
Solvay’s Kyndra Jackson was fourth in the shot put (29 feet 10 inches). Abby Fretaschi got to fifth place in the pole vault (8 feet). Rebecca Quick was sixth in the 100, helping her side run to sixth in the 4×100, too, with the Bearcats also claiming fifth in the 4×400 and sixth in the 4×800.
