Skaneateles lacrosse tames Tully

With each game, each week and with each impressive performance, the Skaneateles boys lacrosse team seems to further separate itself from any possible Section III Class C challenger.

The Lakers put together yet another romp last Monday night, against Tully. Despite its 6-4 mark and tough early schedule, the Black Knights never would get close as Skaneateles smothered them in an 18-3 decision.

First, the Lakers (10-0) got a majority of the face-offs, allowing the attack to establish itself. It did so thoroughly, not stopping until it had mustered a 12-2 halftime lead and added something more in the late going.

Kevin Rice doubled Tully’s output all by himself, finishing with six goals and adding two assists. Kelly Donigan found the net three times as Dylan Ross and Mike Richards had matching two-goal outings.

Tom Schoener and Paul O’Donnell each had a goal and two assists as Jeff Higman, Kyle Baier and Steve Scuderi also converted. Zach Brownlee had two assists, with goalie Cal Winkleman getting credit for an assist to join Richards and Baier in that category.

As this went on, the Skaneateles girls team, preparing for Wednesday’s showdown with CBA, went to Tully and held off the Black Knights 14-10.

Tully paid in the early going for trying to swarm Maddy Morrissey. Other Skaneateles players got open — and they converted often, leading to a 9-5 halftime edge.

Though it was an even second half, Sknaeateles (8-2) kept the Black Knights from getting too close. Diane Vitkus and Aly Davis led this effort, as Vitkus got three goals and one assist and Davis had a team-high four goals.

Erin Callahan backed up her single goal with three assists as Shelby McNeilly and Carly Davis each got two goals. Grace Kelly had a goal and two assists as Morrissey still had one goal and one assist. Erin Featherstone (four goals, one assist) and Alison Bolt (three goals, one assist) led Tully’s effort.
