Both of Cicero-North Syracuse’s track and field teams would find success in Saturday’s chilly, wet conditions.
First, the boys Northstars got revenge on Baldwinsville at the John Arcaro Relays, earning 115 points to the Bees’ 106. B’ville had ended CNS’s 22-meet league win streak earlier in the week at the same Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium where this meet took place.
Eric Munoz would help the Northstars win both the long jump (36 feet) and triple jump (75 feet 4 1/4 inches), and CNS also prevailed in the high jump (11 feet 2 inches) while claiming second in the shot put and third in the discus.
In the 4×100 relay, CNS won in 46 seconds flat, nearly a full second ahead of Tully (46.8), and would grab second in the 110 hurdles (34.1 seconds), distance medley (11:22.5), 1,000 sprint medley (2:08.4), 3,000 steeplechase (21:17.8) and 1,600 sprint medley (3:55.6), plus third in the 400 hurdles.
Not far away, at the Jordan-Elbridge Invitational, the CNS girls team earned a win in the 4×800 relay as Nicole Campagna, Maria Lamontagne, Katie Laris and Taylor Wendler put up a time of 10:08.43, more than half a minute ahead of the field.
Nicole Watterud was second in the 800 (2:25.41), while Marissa Colburn and Jaqlynn Halstead were third and fifth, respectively, in the 3,000, and Mackenzie Cummings was fifth in the 1,500. CNS also had a third-place clocking of 4:32.80 in the 4×400.
Valerie Langevin emerged with a victory in the discus, throwing it 107 feet 2 inches as she also took third (31 feet 6 inches) in the shot put.
