The Cazenovia Rowing Club recently announced the addition of Erica Ashley Mahon to its rowing staff, beginning with the Spring 2010 rowing programs. Mahon comes to the program with more than a decade of rowing and coaching experience.
Mahon has spent years on the water perfecting her skills and learning how to coach. She began rowing in 2000 with a summer program called the Thames River Sculls near her hometown in Connecticut. She later competed for her high school in East Lyme Connecticut and rowed for the Women’s Junior National Team Development Camp. Between 2000 and 2008, Mahon competed nationally and internationally with the Thames River Sculls.
In 2004, Mahon enrolled in Syracuse University studying Inclusive Elementary Education and rowed all four years with SU’s Women’s Rowing Team. She captained the team in 2008. In the fall of 2009, she served as an assistant coach for the team.
Mahon holds a Masters Degree from Syracuse University in Early Childhood Education and teaches in the East Syracuse Minoa School District.
“I am very excited to join the Cazenovia rowing family,” Mahon said. “The sport has given so much to me and has been such a large part of my life, it is a great privilege to work with the next generation of rowers. I am ready to work hard to help these young athletes continue to succeed both on and off the water and can’t wait to begin!”
