WG swimmers tame Liverpool, go to 7-0

West Genesee’s boys swim team had seen, throughout the winter, how Liverpool had kept pace with them, victory for victory, in the race for the top spot in the CNY Counties League.

This made the Wildcats’ showdown with the Warriors Friday night in Camillus a major event – and the hosts would have the most fun.

Led by the double-winning quartet of Ben Seketa, Carson Elias, Pat O’Donnell and Tyler Olson, WG put together a 98-86 victory, its 18th consecutive meet win.

Knowing how deep Liverpool’s roster was, all the Wildcat stars had to perform at a high level – and did.

It started with O’Donnell and Seketa joining Pat Guy and Kevin Taylor to tear up the 200 medley relay in a winning time of 1:44.17, and continued with Seketa needing 1:49.26 to win the 200 freestyle.

A truly unique 200 individual medley unfolded as O’Donnell and Elias squared off. As they easily claimed first and second place, O’Donnell and Elias hit the finish line at exactly the same time – 2:05.72, a dead heat.

Olson took his turn in the sprints, as he won both the 50 freestyle (23.19 seconds) and 100 freestyle (51.12 seconds), both in season-best times. Connor Agen also had his fastest 500 freestyle of the season, winning in a time of 5:15.38.

Elias would have no company as he claimed the 100 butterfly in 54.66 seconds, just before O’Donnell took solo first in the 100 backstroke (58.20 seconds) and Seketa swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.97.

All the stars gathered once more in the 200 freestyle relay, where Olson, Agen, O’Donnell and Elias beat the Warriors with a time of 1:35.15.
