After spending the entire winter confronting Mohawk Valley foes, the Cazenovia girls indoor track team took its talents to Manley Field House to face a larger field.
And the Lakers fared quite well, earning fifth place in last Monday night’s John Arcaro Memorial Invitational with 26 points. Cicero-North Syracuse (55 points) held off Fayetteville-Manlius (52 points) for the top spot.
Piper Gianforte, in particular, stood out, winning the pole vault. Both Gianforte and Phoenix’s Ashley Palmer cleared 8 feet 6 inches, but Gianforte did so with fewer misses, so she took the title.
Paige Biviano nearly won the 55-meter hurdles, her time of 9.51 seconds landing her in second behind CNS’s Katie Osborne (9.07 seconds). Jillian Vogl, Katie Woodworth, Katie Kleine and Audrey Bowers combined to take third place in the 4×200 relay in 1:54.96.
Molly Woodworth was sixth in the pole vault (28 feet), just ahead of her teammate, Christy Tainter (27 feet 8 inches), in seventh place. Hollie Marcelle earned sixth (11:48.74) in the 3,000-meter run.
The news for Biviano didn’t stop there. A standout in Taekwondo with All-American status, she has qualified for Team USA and will compete in the March 6-9 Junior World Championships in Tijuana, Mexico.
