Already, the West Genesee boys swim team is in the forefront of the CNY Counties League as it tries to defend that league title throughout this winter. The Wildcats hosted Fayetteville-Manlius last Wednesday night and, with stars like Ben Seketa and Carson Elias at the heart of the effort, beat the Hornets 96-82. They started out together, in the 200 medley relay, as Seketa and Elias joined Ian Bushnell and Pat O’Donnell won by posting a time of 1:42.90. Right after, Seketa took his turn for the 200 freestyle and broke the 1:50 mark, winning his race in 1:49.52. Then Elias took over in the sprints, claiming the 50 freestyle (23.62 seconds) and ripping through the 100 butterfly in 55.96 seconds. O’Donnell was also strong in this meet, needing just 55.99 seconds to win the 100 backstroke, while Tyler Olson won the 100 freestyle (52.82 seconds) and Josh Byrne earned 220.60 points on the diving board. Connor Agen won the 500 freestyle in 5:23.88, just before Bushnell, Olson, Kevin Taylor and Keegan Halsey combined for first place in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:38.71. F-M’s stars — Kevin Koh, Jack Robinson and Ryan Kelley — had just one win apiece. Two more big meets loom in December, both of them on the road, as the Wildcats visit Oswego this Wednesday, then draws Auburn on Dec. 23.
