Only a rest period could possibly keep the Jamesville-DeWitt girls soccer team from its initial goal of tearing through the OHSL Freedom division.
And maybe a bit of rest did take some fire out of the Red Rams prior to last Tuesday’s game at East Syracuse-Minoa, but it still had enough to beat the Spartans 2-0.
ESM’s defense was sharp in the first half, meeting all of J-D’s rushes and getting fine work from goalie Casie Auricchio, who finished with nine saves.
However, the Rams stayed patient, getting itself used to the new artificial-turf field at Spartan Stadium, then broke through in the second half.
Tori Nies and Ashriel West both hit on unassisted goals, more than enough as Sarah Gianni, with six saves, earned the shutout.
It was J-D’s seventh win in a row, and the Red Rams will visit Mexico Thursday as ESM hosts Chittenango.
