In the middle of September, the West Genesee boys golf team sought to continue what had been a hot start to its season — and did so with four wins in as many days.
The Wildcats’ match at Auburn last Monday proved to be a tight one, but WG had enough to push past the Maroons 200-203.
John Clare and Luke Smith each shot 38 for nine holes, the two low individual rounds. By contrast, Auburn’s best players, Tim Daniels and Bob Gage, managed to shoot 40.
WG next took on Baldwinsville at Radisson Greens on Tuesday afternoon, and again it proved tight — and again the Wildcats won, a 201-205 decision over the Bees.
Connor Salanger stood out, nearly matching par with a 37, two shots better than Connor Khammar and B’ville teammates Lucas Ciulla and Connor Dowd. Nick Holzhauer stepped up his game, too, shooting a 40.
Back home at Westvale on Wednesday, the Wildcats got a bit more breathing space as it pounded Liverpool 185-215.
Smith went to the front with a 36, but three of his teammates — Salanger, Clare and Bryan Semple — lagged close behind, each of them shooting 37. By contrast, Liverpool’s top players, Connor Weakley and Josh Grome, could only manage 42.
To finish this hot streak, the Wildcats handled Rome Free Academy for its fourth consecutive victory, beating the Black Knights 184-196.
This time it was Semple and Matt Salvetti setting the pace with matching scores of 36, while Holzhauer and Clare offered support with 37.
